SIMULATION SERVICES

Overview

TechComm Simulation specialises in designing, developing, installing and maintaining power plant simulators for operator training, engineering analysis and plant performance analysis.

TechComm caters to a diverse range of customers worldwide-electric utilities, IPPs, government-owned and privately owned companies, power plant equipment manufacturers-all benefit from TechComm products. Also, through links with their worldwide customer network TechComm keeps pace with the new developments and trends in the power sector.

Whether in a developed country or a developing country all power generation companies are under immense pressure from consumers to generate power safely, reliably and economically. Also, deregulation and privatisation created an intensely competitive environment. Added to these pressures are demands for clean power and reduction of green house gasses. One of the key elements indispensable to meet these formidable demands is well-trained pro-active operation staff-operators who can operate the plant not only in normal conditions but also in emergencies. Advances in computer software and hardware have made the availability of simulators that help achieve these goals feasible. TechComm specialises in integrating these practical demands with the latest technology to provide high fidelity, high realism power plant simulators.

Product Range

TechComm's range of products includes:

Replica power plant simulators

A replica simulator closely simulates the reference plant configuration, control system, operator interface and information systems. Depending on the method of simulation there are basically two types of replica simulators:

Replica power plant simulators with emulated controls and HMI.

In emulation type simulator the functions of the reference plant control system and Human Machine Interface (operator interface) are simulated using alternative or equivalent off-the-shelf open systems hardware and software and VDU based graphics systems to reproduce the HMI functions.

Replica power plant simulators with stimulated controls and HMI.

In the stimulation type simulator the control system and the HMI are simulated by using the same control system and HMI as in the reference plant. (The hardware and software for the HMI and control system are same as in the real plant).

Generic Simulators

The generic simulator range includes simulators with a variety of typical power plant arrangements, control system designs and operator controls and information systems. They permit training of operators in general principles of plant operation and control, and with the range of plant configurations available, can be supplied in a form very similar to the actual plant of the customer. All parts of the plant are included with the exception of duplicate circuits and auxiliaries, which are of no significance to training.

Based on the fuel used these simulators are classified as:

  • Generic conventional coal fired power plant simulator.

  • Generic conventional oil and gas fired power plant simulator.

  • Generic combined cycle gas turbine power plant simulator.

Part-task Simulators

Part-task simulators are used to simulate a section or subsection of the plant and are used for training on a particular task. These types of simulators are generally the lowest in cost.

Power plant simulation software package (TICSS)

TICSS (the TechComm Integrated Configuration and Simulation System) is a new generation of simulation package developed by TechComm Simulation for real-time replica simulators. This system is designed to significantly reduce time and the amount of new software required to build each simulator, replacing it with application oriented data entry and configuration tools.

It embodies the considerable experience gained by TechComm in its many years of developing and supplying full-scope replica power plant training simulators of all sizes. The power plant models supplied with the configuration system have been refined to include the experience gained from the company's extensive exposure to real plant operations and the feedback accumulated from building fifteen simulators.

Whatever the type of simulator TechComm will endeavour to provide a cost-effective optimum solution for your special training needs.
