Performance Calculation Package

The TechComm Simulation Performance Calculation package (Pcalc) is an on-line measurement system for cycle thermal efficiency. In its simplest form, the thermal efficiency can be measured as energy out/energy in. To a power plant engineer or manager, though, this value only highlights a potential problem but does not identify the cause of the problem.

Through high level manipulation of the data gathered by the Exaquantum package, TechComm Simulation is able to provide to the power plant information that will enable the continuous improvement of the performance of the plant through:

  • Identification of problem areas of causing less than optimum thermal performance;

  • Provide actual plant data to verify and validate plant modification;

  • Provide all station staff with accurate $ values of their actions (or non-action);

  • Provide or the necessary statutory and management reporting on thermal efficiency for the plant;

  •  Provide a verifiable basis for carbon credit valuation.

 What will be provided

·     Thermal efficiency calculations based on the input-output method;

·     Thermal efficiency calculations based on the losses method;

      Analysis of the of actual thermal efficiency by calculating the deviation from the design standard   for the plant;

·     Losses Closure report identifying the thermal efficiency problem areas;

·     A range of standard reports as well as user defined reports accessed either electronically or via print-outs;

·     Alarming indicating thermal efficiency problems identified by the performance calculations.

Further information is available in the TechComm Simulation Performance calculation brochure.

Optimiser

Power Station optimisation is accomplished in two ways:

1)    Operational Optimisation

This takes the performance characteristics of the operating plant and using genetic algorithms identifies the plant operational philosophy that will maximise the profit made from the plant. This is accomplished through the availability of accurate performance and availability data from Exaquantum, PerfCal, and OAM.

The resulting information supplied will be presented as a guideline production report to advise the operators of the most appropriate plant configurations to maximise profit.

2)    Engineering Optimisation

In this process, the thermal efficiency of the plant is reviewed and the areas that are operating less than optimally are identified and quantified in $ terms.

The engineering workforce is then focussed on improving the problems with the greatest return.

Engineering optimisation is achieved through the comparison of mass energy flows available in Plant Model and Mass Balancing, and the design mass and energy flows inherent in the PerfCalcs.
